All of us have loads of questions, big and small, and this is just a great way of getting them all answered or being pointed in the right direction.

Tech issues can be a major hurdle for small charities and community groups, especially without dedicated IT support.

To help address this, we hosted another Bring Your Own Tech Day on Thursday 25th September 2025, offering hands-on support to five Kingston-based organisations.

Attendees brought laptops and questions about Outlook, Windows 11, cloud storage and more.

Partnership for Children

Wendy from Partnership for Children joined our BYOT session for help with her new Windows 11 laptop and Outlook setup.

She was having trouble with the updated Outlook interface, specifically viewing team calendars, adjusting column sizes, and previewing emails.

Colin guided her through the differences between Outlook’s New and Classic views, and addressed her questions about Windows 11 and DocuSign.

Mahirah also helped her navigate her Kindle.

RBKares

Kate and Tessa from RBKares attended to fix persistent issues with Kate’s MacBook and email setup.

She was facing serious disruptions (frequent system crashes and corrupted email functionality) caused by conflicts between two Google accounts.

Paul helped recover data from the deleted personal account and created a new one linked to Google Drive. This ensured access to important files and gave them a stable setup moving forward.

He also clarified how to manage multiple Google accounts on a MacBook to avoid future disruptions.

Moving on Together

Ceris from Moving on Together needed help setting up a work laptop and managing her organisation’s Microsoft 365 account.

With support from Nine, she successfully removed an old user profile, configured a new account, and clarified her Microsoft licensing needs.

Nine also helped update the MOT website by adding a map of their current office location.

Cocoon – Care After Care

Adriana from Cocoon faced a few challenges: sharing OneDrive folders with a new colleague, concerns about their expiring Microsoft Non-Profit grant, and frequent crashes while editing her redesigned Wix website.

Paul clarified Microsoft 365 licensing and storage, and diagnosed the Wix issue — her laptop’s limited RAM and too many open tabs were the cause.

Colin helped her migrate files to Teams and SharePoint, and advised on managing system load.

They also suggested contacting the Clothworkers’ Foundation and KVA's Funding Officer to explore options for a new laptop.

Such brilliant support from Superhighways! They were very patient and walked me through what I needed to do.

An invaluable service for small charities like ours with no IT department.

Learn English at Home (LEAH)

From LEAH, two volunteers and a trustee came to our BYOT day with a mix of tech frustrations and questions.

Mary needed help with Outlook, OneDrive, and her phone.

Nine removed outdated apps from her laptop, clarified her Microsoft and Gmail setup, and advised consolidating files into Google Drive for simplicity and cost-efficiency.

He was very helpful and answered all my questions in an easy-to-understand way. It was an extremely useful session.

Vreni felt overwhelmed by her cluttered computer and university email storage warnings.

We helped her set up a new Gmail account, begin transferring files from OneDrive, and reassured her about email space.

Finally, Harbinda wanted to upgrade her Windows 10 laptop and improve her use of Teams.

Colin guided her through device options and showed her how to manage documents and tracking features effectively.

I’d like to thank you all for your time and effort in providing a personalised troubleshooting session to each of us with so much clarity and patience.

Such support is invaluable to each of us in being able to carry out our volunteer roles in the charitable sector.

We wrapped up the day knowing each attendee had left with tailored advice, a clearer digital setup, and greater confidence in managing their tech.
