Slack is a collaboration hub for work, no matter what work you do. It's a place where conversations happen, decisions are made, and information is always at your fingertips.

Slack is a messaging app developed to address the frustrations of emails, their mantra being - less email, more productive!  We've tried it and think it works well for a specific project / topic.  If you have tech savvy trustees you could try it to discuss an agenda item?  Or might work well for a partnership project?

Quip is similar but also works well if you need to collaborate on documents in real time.  

Whilst it allows changes and notes to be added, viewed and edited (like track changes), you can also have a chat stream conversation to the side of the document.
