So I know how to use Microsoft 365, but what I didn't know was how to set up a new organisation with it.
Our Roehampton is not a new charity but a coming together of the existing Roehampton Trust and the Roehampton Community Capacity Building project which was hosted by Citizens Advice Wandsworth for the last three years.
Meet Julie
Julie was the Community Development worker in the early stages of the project and is now the Interim Director of Our Roehampton, keen to get a fit-for-purpose tech infrastructure to underpin the organisation as it develops.
Digital challenges
Julie first attended a Superhighways workshop on using Census data, but after finding out about our wide range of services, she reached out for some advice. At an initial meeting with Kate three specific issues came to light that they needed support with.
- Setting up the M365 account and transferring emails & data from their host organisation
- Planning the best way forward with the website/s
- Identifying and rationalising social media accounts
Superhighways were really helpful in helping me to uncover information about the two existing websites - who the hosting services were and dates of the renewals for both the domain name and the website hosting.
How we helped
One of the things that Kate sent me was the Excel budgeting sheet detailing all the IT and data management and on there was M365 and the fact that there are free licences, so that template was just very useful.
Paul provided support with registering for non profit M365 account, linking it to their new domain name, purchasing licenses and inital permissions settings. Julie was then able to set up user accounts and email addresses for the team.
This was very helpful. I think we had maybe 3 or 4 sessions because I got very muddled about log ins, as you do. It can get very complicated!
Next steps
Nine from Superhighways also visited the new Our Roehampton office to support set up of staff laptops including installing anti virus software and connecting to their M365 accounts, along with configuring interim wifi whilst they wait for the council to supply broadband at their community centre location.
Thanks for everything you did on Thursday. So good to have our own wifi and a relief to be finally separated from the hosted set up.
Our Roehampton have now signed up to ongoing paid for Superhigways tech support through our Membership package.
One more thing!
With a lot to get sorted, Julie wasn't able to set up a new website for the organisation.
Although we could have helped more with this (Julie told us it was sometimes difficult to progress further enquiries with us - something we've taken on board), it is something she'll need to hand over to the new Director to take forwards. We'll share information about the Voice platform and provide support to set up a website if they decide to go with this option in future.
