Would your refugee community organisation benefit from having a simple, free website - but you’re not sure where to start?
Would it help if someone built the website for you, and then supported you to learn how to manage it?
You’re invited to apply for a free place on Superhighways’ “Build my refugee community organisation website in 3 weeks” training programme, delivered in partnership with the Refugee Council.
We’ll create a basic one or two-page website for your organisation using the Voice Online Communities platform, a free website builder designed for small charities.
There are no ongoing hosting costs, and you’ll get a site that’s easy to update and grow.
Then, through friendly online training sessions, you’ll join a small group of 8–10 micro and small refugee community organisations. Together, we’ll learn how to add pages, edit and develop your new websites, building your confidence to add information when you need to.
Training runs weekly from 10am to 12.30pm, starting on Wednesday 5 November.
Once your website is live, your organisation can also be listed in the Refugee Council’s national directory of refugee community organisations, helping more people find and connect with you.
Eligibility
You must:

What is Voice Online Communities?
Voice Online Communities CIC is a community website publishing platform. You can simply apply for a website and use the documentation to build it by yourself if you want to, without attending any training.
The social enterprise is currently funded by National Lottery Community Fund to further develop the platform.
Additional running costs are covered by building more complex websites for those organisations with a budget. This means it is free of charge for small charities and community organisations.
Benefits of using Voice to build your website:
There are no ongoing costs
- You do not have to pay for 'hosting'.
- You can upload as many photos as you like
- There are lots of useful functions that you can add yourself e.g. calendar, noticeboard
- you do not have to worry about how many photos you upload, or whether you want to include a video on your webpages.
You can ask Superhighways for advice or 1:1 training and Voice Online Communities manages any technical issues on the platform.
However, please be aware that you will be responsible for updating your website once the course is finished.
When is the training?
Weekly training sessions of approximately 2.5 hours will take place on the same day at the same time each week. You will meet the same people building their own website each time you attend.
Course dates are:
