Kingston Carers’ Network (KCN) is a local charity supporting unpaid carers of all ages in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. They provide independent advice, advocacy, and emotional support, ensuring carers have a voice in shaping local health and social care services.

Meet Jo

Jo Maye began her journey with Kingston Carers’ Network in 2011, starting as a part-time administrator. Over nearly 15 years, Jo wore many hats: Volunteer Manager, Administrator for the Young Carers Project, Wellbeing Coordinator, and finally, Communications Lead.

Her introduction to Superhighways

Soon into her tenure, Jo was introduced to Superhighways.

Joining KCN, lots of my initial training as part of my induction was with Superhighways. They introduced me to things like the Voice website, how to use Excel to its best capabilities, and all the basics, really.

Superhighways' impact on KCN and Jo's role

We asked Jo how Superhighways’ support influenced both her work and the wider operations at Kingston Carers’ Network.

🎧 Hear her answer below.

Why prioritise training?

In small charities, employees like Jo often juggle multiple roles, making it hard to carve out time for training and upskilling. So, what made Superhighways’ training worth it for her?

🎧 Listen to Jo’s thoughts as we asked her what kept her coming back.

Jo's longstanding connection with Superhighways

Jo has been connected with Superhighways for as long as she’s been at Kingston Carers’ Network. Over the years, that connection has grown into a trusted, collaborative friendship.

🎧 She shares what it’s meant to have that long-term relationship in her own words.

A testimonial to Superhighways' approach

At Superhighways, we often like to describe ourselves as:

  • Relationship-centred
  • Capability-minded
  • Committed to value
  • Enthusiastically curious
  • Community spirited

But how does that actually feel from the other side? We asked Jo to describe our approach and explain why she would recommend us to others.

🎧 Did we live up to our values? This is what Jo had to say.

The lasting significance of training

Our team is not just here to fix problems. We’re here to empower people to solve them on their own next time.

Our goal is to equip participants in our one-to-one and live training sessions with the confidence and skills to tackle digital, data, and tech challenges confidently. And when things get tricky, we’re always here with a helping hand.

🎧 Listen to Jo’s reflections on the long-term value of the training she’s received over the years.

Final words from Jo

Now working in a school, Jo no longer needs Superhighways’ support in her day-to-day professional life. But after 15 years of collaboration, we couldn’t end the conversation without asking if she had any parting words for the team she’s worked so closely with.

🎧 Hear Jo’s final message to the Superhighways team.
